These terms cover the Potwise iOS app. They are separate from the Omnitics website terms, which cover this website.

Potwise is made by Siddhesh Rane, who publishes it on the App Store under his own name. In these terms, "we" and "us" mean Siddhesh Rane.

Potwise is free, has no account, and stores everything on your own phone. Most of what follows is about one thing: Potwise is a notebook, not a bank.

What Potwise is

Potwise records amounts that you and the people you play with agreed between yourselves, away from the app. It checks that the chips add up, and it works out a short list of transfers that would square everyone up.

That is the whole of it. Every buy-in, rebuy, chip transfer and chip count in Potwise was typed, picked or confirmed by a person, and every other figure, such as the settle-up list, is arithmetic on those amounts.

What Potwise is not

  • Neither Potwise nor we are a party to any arrangement between you and the people you play with.
  • It holds nothing of value. There is no wallet, no balance, no escrow and no float.
  • It moves no money and has no payment integration of any kind.
  • It takes no rake, fee, commission or percentage of anything.
  • It deals no cards, runs or simulates no game, and accepts no wagers.
  • It performs no collection. If someone does not pay you, that is between you and them.

Marking a transfer as settled updates the record on your phone. It is a note to yourself. Potwise has no way of knowing whether anything was actually handed over, and it makes no representation that it was.

No representation that an amount is owed or enforceable

A figure shown in Potwise is arithmetic on numbers you entered. It is not a statement of account, not a demand, not evidence of a debt, and not a representation by us that any amount is legally owed or legally enforceable anywhere.

The settlement list is a suggested set of transfers worked out from the figures you entered. If a game was settled while its chips did not add up, the list cannot square everyone exactly. Whether to act on it is entirely yours.

Your responsibility

You are responsible for what you do with the app and for anything you record in it, including whether the activity you are recording is lawful where you are. Laws on card games played for money vary by country and, in India, by state. Potwise takes no position on that and gives no legal advice.

The app is rated 18+. Do not use it if you are under 18.

Your data

Everything lives on your device. We cannot see it, cannot retrieve it, and cannot restore it. Deleting the app removes the data from your phone, so export a spreadsheet (CSV) first if you want a record of your finished games. See the privacy policy for the detail.

No warranty, and what we are liable for

Potwise is provided as it is, without warranty of any kind. We do not warrant that it is free of defects or that the arithmetic will be right in every case, and we cannot be liable for losses arising from using it, including any money you pay or fail to collect on the strength of a figure it showed you. Check the numbers before anyone pays anyone: the app is built to help you do exactly that.

Nothing here limits liability that cannot be limited by law.

Changes

If these terms change, this page changes and the date at the top changes with it. Continuing to use the app after that means the new terms apply.
