What a client sends, filled in for this sample

  • Product in one line: underwriting AI that reads each submission, checks it against the insurer's own appetite and suggests the next step.
  • ICP: insurance carriers, MGAs and reinsurers, in commercial and specialty P&C and in life and health.
  • 3 target accounts: in a real sketch, you name them. Sixfold did not ask for this sample, so we chose them (how, below).

The company: Sixfold (sixfold.ai), New York: underwriting AI for commercial P&C and life and health insurers, MGAs and reinsurers. Series B, 30 million US dollars raised in January 2026; a team of more than 60, by its own count.

Terms used: P&C is property and casualty insurance. E&S (excess and surplus) covers risks that standard insurers will not write. An MGA (managing general agent) underwrites on an insurer's behalf. A wholesale broker places hard-to-place risks for retail brokers. Appetite is the risks an insurer wants to write, a loss run is a client's claims history, and a hit ratio is the share of quotes that become policies. A CUO is a chief underwriting officer.

How we chose the 3 accounts

  • We started from Sixfold's own site. Its customers page features commercial and specialty insurers such as Zurich North America, Skyward Specialty and AXIS. Its three newest products are the AI Underwriter for P&C (June 2026), the AI Underwriter for Life & Health (2 September 2026) and Distribution Intelligence, which evaluates brokers (24 September 2026).
  • We then looked for US specialty and E&S businesses that resemble those P&C customers, that no public source we found names as Sixfold customers, and that announced a change to how they underwrite between August and October 2026.
  • We checked each one for an AI underwriting tool it already runs, and passed over those that run one like Sixfold's. Where an account has a related tool, its page says so under Check before sending.
  • That left three US accounts with three different triggers: a new chief underwriting officer, a new MGA opening its book, and a new carrier moving onto a new policy system.
  • We contacted no one. Omnitics chose these three accounts; Sixfold did not choose them or review this sketch. Nothing here says any of them is buying underwriting software.

Who sends: Sixfold's own team sends every touch, from its own inboxes and ad accounts.

Account 1: Coverys

A Boston insurer of medical professional liability, rated A by AM Best, whose group includes an E&S carrier, Coverys Specialty, set up in 2015.

The trigger worth acting on now

On 26 August 2026 Coverys named a chief underwriting officer from outside the company, to lead portfolio strategies and standards and direct underwriting for its expansion. In the previous role, at a wholesale broker's binding division, the appointee was responsible for consistent underwriting strategies and practices. Why now: A new CUO sets standards early: act within 90 days, by late November 2026. Source: Coverys release, dated 26 August 2026.

The buying-committee roles to reach

  • Chief underwriting officer. New, and owns the standards. The sponsor.
  • Leader of Coverys Specialty, the E&S carrier. One E&S book is a contained place to start.
  • Underwriting leaders for hospitals and health systems. The daily users; their trust decides adoption.
  • Chief information officer. Integration, the security review and AI governance.

The angle most likely to land

Lead with the CUO's standards, applied the same way to every submission. Sixfold says the AI Underwriter turns a carrier's own guidelines into a working configuration, reads loss runs, covers professional liability and cites every fact to its source. Start with one book, such as Coverys Specialty.

Check before sending: No public source we found names an AI underwriting tool at Coverys; the analytics on its offerings page serve policyholders. Ask what underwriters use today.

Account 2: Amwins Underwriting (way in: illumin Specialty)

Amwins, of Charlotte, North Carolina, describes itself as the largest independent US wholesale distributor of specialty insurance. illumin Specialty sits inside Amwins Underwriting.

The trigger worth acting on now

On 6 October 2026 Amwins launched illumin Specialty, an MGA that will offer primary general and excess liability for hard-to-place risks, through wholesale brokers only. It expects to finalise capacity and start accepting business in the fourth quarter of 2026. Why now: How it handles submissions can still be shaped before the first ones arrive. Source: Amwins release, dated 6 October 2026; also Insurance Journal, dated 6 October 2026.

The buying-committee roles to reach

  • Head of illumin Specialty. Building the MGA and deciding how each submission is handled.
  • Senior underwriters on the illumin team. The daily users; their trust decides adoption.
  • President of Amwins Underwriting. The sponsor; illumin becomes the example to judge.
  • Technology lead for Amwins Underwriting. Integration, keeping each unit's data apart, and the security review.

The angle most likely to land

A new MGA writes its appetite down once. Put it into the AI Underwriter in the first quarter of writing, before habits set: Sixfold says it configures from appetite documents in minutes, reads loss runs and suggests the next step, so a small team can answer brokers quickly.

Check before sending: Amwins' partnership with MGT (February 2026) gives its brokers quotes from an AI-driven insurer; no public source we found names an AI tool for illumin's own underwriters.

The first three touches

#ChannelWho sendsWhenWhat
1EmailSixfold's account executive, to the head of illuminWeek 1Subject: "illumin's appetite, written down once". A note on the launch and on building the MGA from the ground up; two lines on loading illumin's appetite before the first submissions. Ask for 20 minutes once capacity is final.

Sixfold's 2024 AXIS case study, on an earlier product: six weeks to implement, testing included, with one internal IT resource. Propose illumin as a contained first deployment, note that each customer's book sits in its own isolated environment, and ask how illumin's data should be kept apart.

Account 3: AXA XL E&S

AXA XL's new Delaware E&S carrier, rated A+ by AM Best in March 2026.

The trigger worth acting on now

On 30 September 2026 AXA XL launched AXA XL E&S for wholesale brokers only. E&S casualty new business moves onto it first, in early 2027, on a new Guidewire policy administration system; property follows later in 2027. Why now: Aim for a place on the new carrier's 2027 plan, not a 2026 purchase. Source: AXA XL release, dated 30 September 2026.

The buying-committee roles to reach

  • Head of E&S Wholesale Solutions. The E&S leader quoted on the launch.
  • E&S casualty underwriting leader. Casualty moves first.
  • Programme lead for the Guidewire E&S rollout. Decides what connects to it.
  • Wholesale distribution leader. Manages the brokers Distribution Intelligence evaluates.

The angle most likely to land

For a wholesale-only carrier, lead with broker fit. Distribution Intelligence evaluates each broker on submission volume, quality, appetite fit and hit ratio, from submissions run through Sixfold, and carries that to underwriters through the AI Underwriter. So ask for the AI Underwriter on the E&S casualty book; Sixfold says it can plug into existing tools.

Check before sending: AXA's group plan, as reported on 15 September 2026, has a central AI hub deploying AI to submission triage and underwriting decision support, and an Indico Data case study (undated) names AXA XL as an intake customer. Neither mentions broker evaluation, so lead with that; be ready to say how Sixfold would sit beside both. Mention Guidewire's investment and Sixfold's place in its Vanguards programme (2024), but claim no integration.

Platform or not

Not yet. Every trigger above came from free sources: company releases and the trade press that covered them. Sixfold sells to a list it can name (carriers, MGAs and reinsurers), so a weekly read of those sources finds triggers like these without a platform contract. Revisit when the tier-1 list outgrows what one person can review in a week, or when knowing which insurers are reading Sixfold's site before they reply would change who its team contacts first.
